Who We Are
We are the Barlow's, Jim & Phyllis, Independent Baptist Missionaries to the Nation of Thailand. God has given us a
burden to reach out to the mountain tribes of Northern Thailand. Many years ago this region was evangelized by
missionaries. In many villages you can still find Christian who heard the gospel from missionaries in the past. Few
Bible believing Missionaries remain in this part of the country. We wish to pick up the fallen mantel and move forward.
We have been commissioned and sent out by "Hilltop Baptist Church" located in Riceville Tennessee. Dr. Fred
Russell ...Pastor. Dr. Russell also serves as our President at "Hilltop Baptist Missions Inc." which is our Mission
Board. All of the support for this ministry goes through our Mission Board, I am a firm believer in accountability and
being a just steward of what God sends our way.
We now have one church in Chayphruk that we visit every week. This church was started by Bro. Sutin, He is the
young preacher working with me.
We have Hilltop Baptist Church, and Hilltop Baptist Children's Home located in Rong Bir about 20 km east of Chiang
Rai. At the present time we have 11 children in ages from 8 -17, five boys and six girls. Some are from the Akah,
Lahu, and the Lisu hill tribes. We have the capacity to house at least 24 children, but right now we are looking for
more support to take care of their needs.
One of our girls had her father die, and her mother abandon her.
Every few days another mother comes to our door begging for help, we hear some of the saddest stores you ever heard,
and there is nothing we can do for them right now.
It has been said by some secular organizations that we as missionaries are exploiting these children. If helping a child
go to school that has no other chance of going, then we are guilty. If helping feed a hungry under-nourished kid is
exploiting them, then we are guilty. If housing a child that has both parents dead and no one wants them, then we are
guilty. If caring enough for these children to leave my own children, grand-children, and great grand-children to get
the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to them, then once again I am guilty. And apologize I will never do, we love these
kids, and glad to serve where ever our God calls us.
In the past we have worked with the handicapped, and had a part in a leper ministry. We have now been asked to come
into a government run leper community and start a new ministry, as the Lord leads we will do what we can to help
these forgotten people. We would like to start a Bible training center to help train those whom God has called to
preach the gospel. The greatest hindrance in starting new churches is having someone qualified to pastor them. As it is
right now I could join the church of the month club, and start churches in every mountain village in northern
Thailand, but without someone qualified to pastor those churches it would be all in vain.
I sincerely believe in planting churches, and in the past two years we have started two different churches, but as of yet
they do not have a pastor, myself and Bro. Sutin are staying busy with these two. But in the meantime we can use our
Children's Home to teach and train young people to serve the Lord.
